Friday Photo: Children On My Mind

Sometimes as I’m moving around in my day, an image gets stuck in my head that I can’t shake. Sometimes it conjures up a memory, a feeling, or provides an impulse to do something. Often, though, I just see something that I want to capture in my mind for no particular reason-it just speaks to me. I’d like to offer these images up for ‘thought contributions’-as a way to generate a community of ideas together.

This week’s Friday Photo was taken about 9 years ago on a day much like today, when summer was ending and we were all moving and changing gears.  My uncle, Paul Mason, captured my children at a time in their lives when innocence was a daily state.  This week I’ve had many children on my mind…

What images of your children’s life are embedded in your mind?  I’d love to hear your thoughts – please start our conversation with a comment!

    Leah,
Thanks for the comment-I had never looked at the image that way, and I love the idea! Our children do hold up the sky, don’t they?

I love the photo. It almost looks like they are holding up the sky like an umbrella… Oh the possibilities… and a lovely post!

I dropped over from Kat’s Cafe… Just couldn’t resist since we are both teachers.

This is a very beautiful picture of your kids. I have many pictures that are embedded into my mind of my kids.. it’s so hard to pick just one.

That innocence slips away so quickly. It’s nice to have a memory like this. Well written..

Mine was taken on a cruise to Alaska. We were living the San Francisco Bay and I was standing on the other side of the boat when I spied my three monkeys. The were all in different poses, howling with laughter. I have no idea what or why they were laughing, but that is my favorite photo. That’s how kids should be, laughing and being kids. (and you are correct, an image opens all sorts of doors in our mind.)

I just typed up a lengthy response and then it disappeared. Sigh – computers. Anyway, lovely post. I have many vivid memories of my little guy growing up. He’s still little but there are certain images that I think I will carry with me always.

Thanks for the comments! Isn’t it funny how some images we manage to capture with a camera, and some just stick in our minds regardless?

One of my favorites is when my eldest child was a newborn and he was photographed with a bottle of Hershey’s syrup. It reminds me of how little he really was at one time.

    Take care,

It’s so funny I found your post today because I have been thinking about seeing my children walking on the beach with my dad just this past Tuesday! Seeing my own father walk the same beach he walked with me, many, many years ago just stuck in my mind. The time moves so quickly yet seems to repeat itself in odd ways. Thanks again for a great post!!

    Hi Becky,
Thanks for starting our conversation! Sweet and innocent…I think of those times, too. Do you find that now that they are older, they ‘need’ you just as much, but not in as obvious or immediate ways?

Checked out your Uncle Paul’s site…he has a great style!

Now that my kids are much older, the images of when they were sweet and innocent…when they needed their Mom…these are the ones that my memory goes back to.
