A Reminder to Breathe and Be Still

breathe

It only takes a reminder to breathe,

a moment to be still, and just like that,
something in me settles, softens, makes
space for imperfection.
The harsh voice
of judgment drops to a whisper and I
remember again that life isn’t a relay
race;
that we will all cross the finish
line;
that waking up to life is what we
were born for.
As many times as I
forget, catch myself charging forward
without even knowing where I’m going,
that many times I can make the choice
to stop, to breathe, and be, and walk
slowly into the mystery.

      Marcie, isn’t it odd how we all forget to breathe and be still, when it is really such a simple thing to do? I find myself repeatedly reminding myself to stop. slow down. Wait for the next breath. It really does help, doesn’t it? Thanks so much for commenting today! -Jennifer

    Inhale, release, exhale… always at the top of my list, but somehow I often forget.

      Brenda, I do wish that these simple, yet vital, practices were not so easily forgotten. I know my life would be infinitely easier if I didn’t have to remember. I need to work on that! So glad you’re back safely from Britain and can’t wait to see you! -Jennifer

      Mirjam, you’re so welcome. I need this reminder often; I get caught up in life and forget that everything comes so much more easily if I just pause, step back and breathe. Thank you for commenting today! -Jennifer

      Kim, you’re not alone. I feel like I should have this tattooed on my hand so every time I get overwhelmed I can stop, pause, breathe and remember what is really important. So glad to hear from you-hugs to you, my friend. -Jennifer
