Not Saying A Word Today

Posted on February 27, 2013 by

UCD arboretum bloom

Today I’m flying low and I’m
not saying a word
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m traveling
a terrific distance.

Stillness. One of the doors
into the temple.

The Love Embrace of the Universe

Posted on January 14, 2013 by

The love embrace of the Universe

Enfolds and carries us forward

Nurtures flesh, pine, cacti, snow

Brown, white, black, red, gold and green

Hues that tint our lives and soften our differences.

Mother Universe, mother, child

Our roots, common, grounding and affirming

Our dreams, universal, skyward, drifting

Our eyes, focused, watching, hovering

Searching for that entity, that essence

Which like fingers, grasping, touching and trembling

Bonds us to each other, encircling

The crackle of life, the wisdom of Her

The anchor of the Earth

The tug of the moon

The sun, guiding each of us

All made of love

We are all dependent on each other

Mother Universe, mother, child

The love embrace of the Universe

Starting Now…

Posted on January 7, 2013 by

IMG_3364I’m starting now as if I haven’t already been up for hours…

as if I haven’t made the coffee and the bright red tea kettle hadn’t whistled for your pomegranate green tea…

as if I haven’t cooked the peppered bacon, veggie omelet with mushrooms, onion and crunchy green bell pepper, held together with gooey cheddar cheese…

as if I haven’t sliced the juicy melon or packed the food for your skiing lunch break…

as if I haven’t folded last night’s final load of laundry, and the washer wasn’t humming with today’s first…

as if I haven’t carefully packed your ski boot bag with dry gloves and hand warmers…

as if I haven’t re-positioned the blankets on our bed…

as if I haven’t received an unexpectedly long good morning hug and comforted you when your legs felt like jello and you’re not sure you can make it out the door in the dark, frosty air…

as if I haven’t already had three cups of that coffee with cream and cleared the dishes from the breakfast table…

I’m starting now as if today was all about me…

and grateful that it isn’t.

Hope Goes On

Posted on October 25, 2012 by

Daily Thought Image 10-25-12
When the obligations stack up
and the emails aren’t returned
shoulders groaning under it all
it goes on.
When your thoughts are dry
and your eyes are soaked
fog shrouding your brain
it goes on.
When you can’t decide
and you wake before your time
wishing the covers would envelop it all
it goes on.
When your child falls
and your soul is breaking
scrambling to say the right thing
it goes on.
When everyone else seems to have it fine
and you’re digging yourself out
barely keeping yourself vertical
it goes on.
When you think you cannot open your eyes to another day
and you feel like starting over
knowing today will tip the scale
it goes on.
Love goes on.
Hope.
goes.
on.
What keeps you going?  Do you have three words of your own?

Friday Photo: Independence Day

Posted on July 6, 2012 by

It took 46 years to sense it…
first just a tickle
then a burst out here and there
like a drowning woman rising to the top
churning and bubbling to the surface

It took 46 years to feel it…
saying goodbye to identities no longer useful
relationships not meeting needs
or stereotypes obliged to slide to the side
and slither into obscurity

It took 46 years to create it…
birthing them from me and
me from myself
welcoming a new phase of existence
all the time surrendering expired habits

It took 46 years to explode it…
pulsing out my heart through my fingertips
rushing out my mouth to the world
exuding out my very being into the
freedom to be
me.

Independence.
